The french revolution put a final end to the knights ideal of humanity. The victors, the citizens, didn’t at all feel the compulsion to live by the virtues they had claimed and the virtues that once were held in high esteem by the knight society. What was once virtue had turned into a calculated art of reaching a compromise. But that’s not the main theme. What’s more important is that from that exact moment on the poetry of having courage changed. And moreover, the scene of bravery changed as well. Bravery is no longer an integral player in hearts and battlefields (human or not), but in politics and economy.

So yes, bravery in the sense of human interaction, was in fact the collateral casuality of the french revolution.
